There is so much pressure to try and sell to as many people for as much money as possible. Even if the people don't really want or need the product, that doesn't matter - it just makes it more of a challenge to convince them that they do need it after all.

We prefer the term communication to advertising or marketing, it feels more complete and not solely about selling. This may involve the placing of adverts, but it should encompass more and go someway to share what the essence of the organisation is, so those that feel attracted to it can find it.
